Obedience in Sweden

In Sweden, obedience is divided into four levels of difficulty, class I, II, III and Elite. To achieve a Swedish Championship (SLCH) a dog has to get a first prize in Elite class three times. In the lower classes, three first prizes gives you an obedience diploma and the title LP.

Class I

  1. Long down, a group exercise were the dogs lie down for two minutes
  2. Sit for examination
  3. Heel on leash, the dog walks beside the handler with no pulling or lagging
  4. Heel free, same as above but whitout leash
  5. Drop on heel, the dog lie on the down command during heelwork
  6. Recall, the dog is recalled from far end of the ring then goes to heel
  7. Stand on heel, the dog stands on command during heelwork
  8. High jump, the dog must clear the jump then go to heel
  9. Appearance, how well the dog and its handler work together

Class II

  1. Long down, a group exercise were the dogs lie down for three minutes with the handlers out of sight
  2. Heel free, the dog walks beside the handler with no pulling or lagging
  3. Drop on heel, the dog lie on the down command during heelwork
  4. Drop on recall, the dog lie on the down command then continue to come in to handler and goes to heel
  5. Stand on heel, the dog stands on command during heelwork
  6. Retrieve on flat, the dog is send to retrieve a wooden dumbbell thrown by the handler
  7. Signal exercise, the dog must sit and drop down on command with the handler using hand signals
  8. High jump, the dog must clear the jump, jump back, then go to heel
  9. Appearance, how well the dog and its handler work together

Class III

  1. Long down, a group exercise were the dogs lie down for four minutes with the handlers out of sight
  2. Heel free, the dog walks beside the handler with no pulling or lagging
  3. Drop on heel, the dog lie on the down command during heelwork and the handler leaves it running
  4. Drop and stand on recall, the dog stands on command then continue to come in to handler, then lie on the down command and later goes to heel
  5. Directed drop and recall, the dog is send to a square to lie down then is recalled while the handler moves in a decided pattern
  6. Retrieve over high jump, the dog is send to retrieve a wooden dumbbell thrown by the handler over a high jump
  7. Retrieve on flat, the dog is sent to retrieve a metal dumbbell thrown by the handler
  8. Scent discrimination, the dog seeks out and returns to handler the one of five wooden objects that has the handler´s scent
  9. Signal exercise, the dog must stand, sit and drop down on command with the handler using hand signals
  10. Appearance, how well the dog and its handler work together

Class Elite

  1. Long sit, a group exercise were the dogs sit for two minutes with the handlers out of sight
  2. Long down, a group exercise were the dogs lie down for four minutes with the handlers out of sight and whit the testleader disturbing them
  3. Heel free, the dog walks beside the handler with no pulling or lagging
  4. Stand, drop and sit on heel, the dog stands, drops down and sit on command during heelwork
  5. Drop and stand on recall, the dog stands on command then continue to come in to handler, then lie on the down command and later goes to heel
  6. Directed drop and recall, the dog is first send to a cone, then to a square to lie down then is recalled when the handler moves in a decided pattern
  7. Directed retrieve, the dog is sent to a cone, then retrieves one of three wooden dumbells, the testleader decides which
  8. Retrieve over high jump, the dog is sent to retrieve a metal dumbbell thrown by the handler over a high jump
  9. Scent discrimination, the dog seeks out and returns to handler the one of five wooden objects that has the handler´s scent
  10. Signal exercise, the dog must stand, sit and drop down on command with the handler using hand signals
