Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is a relatively new breed in Sweden. The first Toller came to Sweden in 1984, but in its homeland Canada, the history goes back as far as the middle of the 17th century. The Toller is, as all other retrievers, a hunting dog, bred to retrieve downed birds. The Toller, however differs from the other retrievers by its alltogether own behaviour. It lures the birds within gunshot range and that is what´s called tolling. The Toller is an allround and versatile hunting dog that can work very well in other hunting situations, especially gametracking, but also during deerhunting. Obedience competitions is an other field where many Tollers have done extremely well and agility and flyball are other sports that many consider Tollers eminently suited for. |
